Measuring success

What is success?

The January issue features a short story from one regular contributor who doesn’t get much support from someone close to her. The writer is proud of her small successes in publication but I suspect only something to equal Gone with the Wind or the Harry Potter series would impress ‘him’ 😦

Sadly, I’ve met many writers through Positive Words and various writing groups who don’t get much support or encouragement. Some even keep their writing secret.

Don’t ever let anyone discourage you. Be proud of your achievements, whether it’s a few lines or a best-selling novel.

Success is having a go . . . publication is icing on the cake 🙂

If you would like a copy of the January issue, please send $5.50 (unused stamps accepted) to PO Box 798, Heathcote 3523, Victoria. (Anyone overseas – please contact me for options)

Positive Words magazine is filled with great stories, poems and articles from writers having-a-go and support through subscriptions and competition entries is much appreciated and vital so it can continue to be published.

Many of my successes have been due to your magazine, Sandra, and I hope the lady is not put off by negative remarks about what she does. I too have many publications lining my bookcase shelves with one or two items of mine gracing their pages and I am proud to say that most of them are copies of Positive Words Magazine. Also on the bookshelves are copies of other anthologies, also containing some of my works and these have won me monetary prizes or second or third place certificates which I treasure. I have never been put off by rejection letters from editors or the fact that my submissions didn’t win a competition, I will continue what I do and if I finally hit the jackpot then that will truly be the icing on my cake. I am lucky that I receive a lot of support from those around me and they also offer constructive criticism, which I find very useful. I hope she keeps going and doesn’t bow to negative pressures. Keep on keeping on is what I advise.

  3. Publication is definitely icing on a cake, but success is when you actually baked a cake. With icing or not, you still did it 🙂

    • I agree completely 🙂
And even when the cake sinks, like mine did a couple of weeks ago, it made a great trifle! Every effort has value and who knows where they will end up 🙂
