Mini-competitions 2015

The monthly mini-competitions will continue to be held throughout 2015.

Thank you everyone for your support over the past year as it really does help to keep the magazine going.

For those who are new to the magazine/competitions . . . the mini-competitions are held every month. Each month there is a ‘word’ which must be included in either a 100 word (or less) story, or a ten line (or less) poem. Multiple entries are welcome as long as each one is accompanied by the entry fee which is $1.40 in unused stamps and need to be posted by the last day of the relevant month. The list of topics is below:

As the year draws to a close…

I hope the blog title makes for an inspiring prompt 🙂

The end of my 2014 has slipped in a couple more hiccups . . . this year is determined to go out with a loud crash and bang!

Thank you to everyone for all the kind messages and emails. They help . . . they really do! And my thoughts are with all who are also experiencing tough times.

As my years draw to a close I have been catching up with submissions and correspondence and will be posting more competition results in a few days.

And I have also written a couple of stories, something I haven’t done for quite a while. You can read them on the ABC Open project:

Thank you

Dear Subscribers, Readers and Contributors,

Thank you all for your much appreciated support of Positive Words magazine during 2014.

It has been a difficult year on a personal level with illness, tough times for several family members and sadness as my mother has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease and my father struggles at times to cope. It has all taken its toll both emotionally and financially but I am forever indebted to all who have continued to support Positive Words, especially those who have sent kind donations towards the printing costs and stamps which have really helped with the huge postage bill (further extended with the rise earlier this year!). As most of you know, the magazine is a labour-of-love and I do not receive wages or payment for my time, so the support is vital and very much valued.

Many of you have also confided you own troubles throughout the year and my thoughts are with you. I do hope your situations improve in the near future.

Unfortunately, perhaps in part due to my distractions elsewhere and lack of time to promote the magazine and competitions, subscriber numbers have fallen but Positive Words will continue as usual through 2015. Apart from my mother’s condition, most of the other situations have improved and I am looking forward to the coming year and encouraging new writers and subscribers in their writing endeavours. Please spread the word if you know of anyone interested in writing.

Once again, my sincere thanks for all the support and encouragement through the year and I look forward to hearing from you all and seeing more of your work in 2015.

Best wishes for a wonderful Christmas and New Year,

Sandra James

The Midas Touch

Today’s writing prompt:

Does anyone know the term for the reverse-Midas-Touch?

Think it might make a good scenario for a story and I’d also like to know because I’m pretty sure I have it right now 😦

I wonder if there’s a cure? 🙂

Dear Santa

Dear Santa,

All I ask this year is for a BIG FAT bank account and a slim body.

And…please don’t get it mixed up like you did last year 😦

It’s not my original thought but, sadly, it’s very close to home!

I hope it inspires some fun writing 🙂
