No apple pie :(

Thanks to yet another visit from the local white cockatoos we won’t be eating apple pie an time soon 😦

The nets were secured (I pulled them back for the photo) but they still get in. Hopefully, next season we’ll have the orchard completely covered.

Yesterday morning I heard a roaring sound followed by a huge crash and a herd of kangaroos racing away. These huge branches had fallen on a perfectly still morning. Every night the tree, in our neighbour’s property, is a roost for  local birdlife, mostly White Cockatoos and Corellas but I’ve also seen many other varieties there, including my favourite Yellow Tailed Black Cockatoos passing through.

Bailey used to love playing there and catching rabbits a couple of years ago but as the area became more populated with a few more houses and residents, I worried about a ginger cat with a long fluffy tail being mistaken for a fox, so much to his disappointment he became a solely inside cat.

I’m glad he wasn’t there when the branches came down!

Have you ever been in the wrong place at the wrong time or the right place at the right time? Great idea for a story or poem – fact or fiction 🙂

Only 752 words left to reach my NaNo WriMo target…think I’ll have a cup of coffee and bring it home 🙂

Ten Feathers

Today’s prompt…

No…I didn’t let Bailey loose on the marauding Cockatoos or pluck the broody hens who’ve stopped laying! With so much birdlife around there’s always feathers in the yard and Bailey loves to play with them 🙂 Poor cat who is confined to the Great Indoors or his outside pen gets very frustrated with Magpies teasing him on the verandah and rabbits, including the tiniest babies, running all over the lawn and right up to the back and front doors! Then, to add insult to injury, when I took him out to his pen just a few minutes ago . . . another cat! Obviously one whose parents let him wander. I’m so glad Bailey can’t talk or I’m sure all I’d hear would be All the other mums let their cats out. You’re not fair!  It’s for your own good, son!  🙂

NaNoWriMo Update: I thought as the month wore on I’d be struggling to maintain the required words each day but rather, each time I add more I can’t wait to reach the next mini-milestone I’ve set. (We won’t mention the things here that aren’t getting done 😦 )Yesterday I thought I might make it to 40,000 but got a bit tired late in the evening and decided on a fresh start today. I’m now up to 39,751 words and still enjoying it 🙂

Jonquils and Daffodils

Today’s prompt…

I LOVE Daffodils and Jonquils 🙂 Yesterday I had a letter and submission from a subscriber who told me she was delighted to see her Jonquils blooming and mine are all ready to burst into flower. My daughter Jess told me a couple of weeks ago that hers were already flowering and this picture was taken in Wagga Wagga in June. Things happen at different times not just between different countries but also between different parts of Australia.

Daffodils hold special memories for me and a friend once sent me a beautiful story about a woman who kept going despite adversity, planting hundreds of Daffodils, one by one, year after year, until she covered the whole side of a hill. I will see if I can find a link for it.

Unfortunately, the cockatoos attack the Daffodils and Jonquils further away from the house, very frustrating when you’ve been watching the buds swell and waiting…only to find them snapped off just before or soon after they bloom. We were hoping for less attacks now the house is finished but they’ve already made a mess of my Agapanthus 😦    (Picture a crazy lady, running around the yard, chasing cockatoos away!)
