Prompt Sheets & Writing Groups

As I write this, the social isolation restrictions have only been in place for a short time but already several people have contacted me saying how much they miss their writing groups. Me, too 😦  We are emailing and phoning to try and keep in touch and I’ve continued to email our ‘lesson/homework’ sheets out so we stay inspired.

Some years ago I offered weekly lesson sheets/prompts in exchange for unused stamps (to help with the postage costs each month for the magazine) and many people enjoyed them. If anyone missing their writing group inspiration would like me to start this again, I can offer a weekly sheet via email or snail-mailed with ideas and exercises – one postage stamp ($1.10) per sheet or the equivalent (direct deposit etc).

Despite having much more time to write now, often we need that extra encouragement or incentive so please contact me if you would like to be a part of this. Email – positivewordsmagazine@live.com.au or snail mail – Sandra James, PO Box 798, Heathcote 3523 Victoria.

Drying Out

Thank you to all who have taken the time to contact me after hearing of our little flood. All the messages and kind thoughts mean so much and make a big difference 🙂

The worst of the clean-up is done although I have a few damp boxes on the verandah just outside the back door filled with papers and bits and pieces saved, everything from pieces published, prize certificates etc to clippings I thought might one day be useful. Maybe a few surprises still to come; that will be top of this week’s to-do list!

The clean-up crew have been wonderful and I cannot praise them highly enough for their efficiency in doing their jobs and also their kind attitudes which make all the difference. The soggy floor coverings have been ripped up and taken away with our lounge suite and various pieces of wooden furniture and drapes, and piles and piles of belongings stored at ground level (books, fabric, wool, clothes, linen and, sadly, a few sentimental items), have been sorted, photographed and catalogued by those wonderful men before being taken away. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before the repairs (skirting boards etc) begin, new floor coverings are installed and the insurance company come up with a fair settlement to cover the belongings. So far, so good 🙂

The December issue is almost complete, a little late going off to the printer but I am sure you will all understand 🙂

Thanks again!

Fillers Wanted :)

The September issue is with the printer, a great issue filled with diverse themes, topics and styles. Plenty to interest everyone 🙂

Now I’m looking for ‘fillers’ (and longer poems, stories and articles) for upcoming issues. This issue will be number 179 since the first issue of Positive Words magazine in 2002 and I’m still amazed at the amount of little spaces each month. All submissions are always appreciated and I’m hoping for lots in the Haiku, Limerick, very-short-poem size as well as micro or flash fiction. Hard copy, snail mail…send to Sandra James, Positive Words magazine, PO Box 798, Heathcote Victoria 3523. Thanks 🙂
