Late December

My apologies to everyone for the slow arrival of the December issue. I was a few days late getting it to the printer after the flash flood that inundated our house, but after two weeks it still isn’t ready for collection and I suspect a very busy workload close to Christmas and perhaps the flood that hit Euroa, where Positive Words is printed, two weeks after our flood might have slowed things as well. Hopefully, it won’t be too far away and I have the envelopes all stamped and addressed ready to post as soon as I pick up the copies.

And, the January issue is almost complete and ready to be sent to the printer. They close down over Christmas/New Year so I’m hoping it will be printed before then and able to be sent out in time to give everyone some relaxing summer reading.

Thanks everyone for your understanding 🙂

Drying Out

Thank you to all who have taken the time to contact me after hearing of our little flood. All the messages and kind thoughts mean so much and make a big difference 🙂

The worst of the clean-up is done although I have a few damp boxes on the verandah just outside the back door filled with papers and bits and pieces saved, everything from pieces published, prize certificates etc to clippings I thought might one day be useful. Maybe a few surprises still to come; that will be top of this week’s to-do list!

The clean-up crew have been wonderful and I cannot praise them highly enough for their efficiency in doing their jobs and also their kind attitudes which make all the difference. The soggy floor coverings have been ripped up and taken away with our lounge suite and various pieces of wooden furniture and drapes, and piles and piles of belongings stored at ground level (books, fabric, wool, clothes, linen and, sadly, a few sentimental items), have been sorted, photographed and catalogued by those wonderful men before being taken away. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before the repairs (skirting boards etc) begin, new floor coverings are installed and the insurance company come up with a fair settlement to cover the belongings. So far, so good 🙂

The December issue is almost complete, a little late going off to the printer but I am sure you will all understand 🙂

Thanks again!

No NaNo

Sorry I’m afraid this year’s NaNoWriMo is a wash out. Literally! A slow start but I was beginning to pick up pace and was still hopeful of getting there but on Thursday night a flash flood here. My visiting daughter and granddaughter (from Adelaide) went out for 2 hours as my grandson Jackie who lives with his dad in Heathcote (we are 10 kms out) had a little 6th birthday party. LOTS of heavy rain and came home to find the whole house flooded. Every room. You can image the mess. 1000s of books stored at ground level in the robes etc, fabric and wool for my crafts and so much I still haven’t sorted yet. Jess went back into Heathcote and stayed with Dahlia (9months) at my son’s house and looked after Jackie while my son came to help drag what we could out and start mopping. My husband who works and stays in Melbourne through the week came home as quickly as he could organize things. Not much sleep that night. Yesterday the insurance clean-up people came and got all the carpet and floating floor out and now we have huge dryers through the house with all those ground level items on the verandah slowly getting sorted. So many precious things can’t be saved but will try to look on the positive side and save what we can. My daughter decided it would be best to head home although they had been planning to stay another week. The noise in the house is bad and all the humidity not good for a baby. So they have just gone (very teary) and now a quick breakfast and back to the sorting/clean up.

I know I mentioned in the November issue that you could follow the progress on the blog – I hope everyone else is going ahead in leaps and bounds!

Writing Competition

Don’t forget the Positive Words End-of-Year Short Story & Poetry competition if you haven’t already entered!   Entry form

Entries need to be mailed by 31 October. It doesn’t matter if they don’t arrive by then; I am well aware of how unreliable Australia Post can be so as long as you mail by 31 October the postmark will reflect that and it won’t matter if there is a delay 🙂

Two weeks ago I mailed the October magazines over two days from the same PO. One arrived in WA several days before another made it to Bendigo (50kms from here!). And, some South Australian subscribers received theirs (in the same town) well over a week apart although they would have been next to each other in the pile I took to the PO  😦

Missing in Action :(

Or should I say NO or lack of action! Four people have contacted me to report non-arrival of their October issues. One eventually turned up, it travelled a whole 50kms in 10 days!  On the other hand, one lady received her copy on the other side of the country (WA) in less than a week. Most people I talk to roll their eyes when they talk about Australia Post…I’m not surprised!

I have posted out new copies to those concerned and if you haven’t yet received your October issue, please email me and I will send out another.
