Many people have been asking if the stories, poems and articles in Positive Words magazine and entered into the competitions have to be ‘positive’. NO!
The ‘positive’ in the title refers to the act of doing something positive with your work i.e. getting it out there, submitting it to a magazine, anthology or publisher, entering it into a competition etc. Be proud of your work and what you’ve achieved whether it’s a happy story or poem, a sad one, reflective, horror, dramatic…whatever your preferred genre.
Competition finalists and winners are selected on merit, not genre.
Over the years we’ve had a wide variety of genres in both the monthly print issue and entered in the competitions…go for it!
Just today or tomorrow left to post you entries in the Positive Words End-of-Year Short Story & Poetry Competition (Open – no theme)
and/or this months mini-competition featuring the word BROTHER. Details below…
Entry form mini themes 2015
Thank you everyone for the much appreciated support 🙂
I’ve had a few emails asking if there is a theme for the Positive Words End-of-Year Short Story & Poetry Competition.
No…there is no theme for this competition 🙂 Let your imagination run wild 🙂
Others have asked if it’s ok to send more entries…YES, as many as you like! If there isn’t enough space on the entry form use a second one, put the details on the back or use a cover sheet. All are accepted 🙂
And. . . font, print, spacing etc. Use your favourite, there are no rules. Double or 1.5 spacing makes for easier reading for judges but also uses more paper so if you prefer single spacing, that’s fine!
Please ask if there is anything else you would like to know 🙂
And . . . thank you very much for supporting the competition. Every entry helps to keep Positive Words magazine and a great opportunity for publication alive.
Thank you to everyone who supported this competition.
Despite my rumbling tummy, I thoroughly enjoyed reading the diverse entries featuring the word CHEESECAKE and the very clever uses of the word.
Once again I have divided the prize between to entries who will each receive a three-month subscription to Positive Words magazine. Congratulations Raylene Hewer and Melynda Paterson.
Results can be found here: Positive Words JULY 2015 Mini

I hope you will all support the mini-competitions which help to fund postage for the monthly magazine and provide a great opportunity for writers to hone their skills. And . . . don’t forget the Positive Words End-of-Year Short Story & Poetry Competition which closes with the last post on 31 October. A little inspiration for some weekend writing . . .
Surely the cold, dark days were finally behind them.
Happy writing 🙂
A writing prompt to get the week started . . .
Mysterious bumps began appearing in the lawn.
I hope it generates lots of great stories and poems 🙂

And a few quotes to inspire you . . .
My room isn’t messy, it’s just an obstacle course designed to keep me fit.
Obstacles are the things you see when you take your eyes off the goal. (Henry Ford)
The greater the obstacle, the more glory in overcoming it.
